Unitech Unihomes project has considerably overstepped its scheduled completion date. Residential apartments in the project was launched in 2009 and were supposed to be handed over by January,2011.

The apartment owners have protested the delay in handing over of the Unihomes project and staged a silent protest by gathering at GIP Mall, Noida. The buyers, who have formed an informal association, claim to have the support of at least 250 members.  Unihomes investors are resented over the dilly dally attitude shown by the Unitech developers over the construction of the project as well as on their lame response shown towards the investors.

A majority of the apartment owners bought their flats in 2009-10 when the company had launched its project. The buyer association is also contacting other apartment buyers who own apartments in the project but have not joined the group. A large number of buyers of Unihomes phase 1 and 2 have aleady paid around 90 per cent of their apartment’s cost to the Unitech.

President of informal association of Unihomes Buyers, Mr. Srinivas maintained that complaints were also registered at PMO office and other institutions almost six months back over the lack of commitment shown by Unitech Developers towards the project.  He also said that he booked his flat at the rate of 25k-35k in July 2009. Like others he was also promised by developers that possession will start taking place from 2011 onwards but so far only 40% of construction activity has taken place at the site and possibility of possession in quick time seems quite remote.

“There seems to be no possibility of the project getting completed even by end of 2014, given the pace of construction activities at the site,” said another apartment owners.

This has affected those buyers the most who have taken home loans to pay for their flats’ EMI.  Beside paying EMI, they have ended up paying for their rents too.  This has taken a double toll on the investors and apartment owners are still looking for some relief or assurance over this.

Many investors also maintained that Unitech is neither willing to give any commitment on completion of the project, nor is willing to return their money. Some of the Investors who attended the protest meet were Zamir Khan, Vikas Hazela, Srinivas Shirur, Manoj Kundu, Lipika dutta etc.
